Russophobia in Western media

Political tensions have created a distorting filter around everything that touches Russia.

In Western media, the State, the government, society and the people are often confused. Result: an easy, almost automatic shortcut.

2025 marks a peak of mistrust, amplified by social media and the algorithm that loves strong emotions.

Yet the reality is more nuanced: Russians are diverse, divided, sometimes critical, sometimes indifferent.

People are not their governments — and the media too often forget this basic rule. Recalling this distinction is a simple act... but necessary.
