01 · Arrival

RuID form before entry (visa-free)No earlier than 90 days and no later than 72 hours before entry (4 hours in emergencies). Not for Belarus or children under 6.
Keep your migration cardFilled in on entry; keep it until you leave. Not for citizens of Belarus.
Get a Russian SIM cardNo deadline. In person at a shop, with SNILS, a verified Gosuslugi account and biometrics. →

02 · Registration

Migration registration at your address7 working days from arrival in general. Tajikistan, Uzbekistan: 15 days; working EAEU citizens: 30 days; Belarus, Ukraine, HQS: 90 days. Dorm: via the university; rental: via the host.
Moscow and Moscow Oblast: register in the Amina appSince 1 Sep 2026, for visa-free adults incl. students staying over 90 days. No geolocation for 3+ working days means deregistration.

03 · Medical & fingerprints

Medical check, fingerprinting, photoMedical check: within 30 calendar days of entry (since 1 Sep 2026), then yearly. Fingerprinting: deadline depends on status — confirm with your university or employer.

04 · Money & documents

Open a bank account / Mir cardNo legal deadline. See our bank guide. →
INN and SNILSNo legal deadline, but SNILS is needed early: without it you cannot buy a SIM card.

05 · University & status

Student ID and enrolment documentsAsk the international office. →
Study visa extensionThe first study visa is issued for up to 90 days. The university files the extension no later than 20 working days before expiry.
