Foreigners living in Moscow: who films it, and what it costs
Roster checked September 2026 · September 2026
Most foreign creators in Russia live in Moscow, and that skews everything you see. The metro is beautiful, the deliveries arrive in fifteen minutes, the parks are new, the salaries are the highest in the country — and none of that describes the other 88 regions.
The channels here are still the best material available on daily life in the capital: rents by district, supermarket receipts, what is on the shelves this month, how a foreign family handles school. Read them as Moscow, not as Russia.
What to verify before you move here
- Rent: a district name changes the price more than the year does. Check the actual metro line, not the city average.
- Income: Moscow salaries are roughly a third above the national figure, and so are its prices.
- Cards and payments: what works for a resident with a Russian bank account is not what works for a visitor.
- Registration: your landlord has to file it. Agree on that before you sign anything.
